Hello
I'm an installing two led lights and a separate pir unit to side of shed to illuminate an alleyway.
I'll need to get 3 glands to pass the cabling through the corrugated tin.
However, I was planning to use 3+e for the pir, but I've been told I need double insulated cable for this and 3+e is not suitable. I don't need a tight seal on the gland for it as it is only intended for mechanical protection when going through the tin - there will be a waterproof junction box used inside shed for all the connections.
Is 3+e okay here or what cabling should I be using?

3 core and earth is double insulated, so long as you use a gland with an elongated hole it should be fine.
If you are using a water resistant JB, why not mount it outside, since that is what it is for, and it will probably make life easier.

Would you hit a nail with a shoe because you don't have a hammer? of course not, then why work on anything electrical without a means of testing Click Here to buy a "tester" just because it works, does NOT mean it is safe.

I had thought about that initially but decided it would be neater to have it all inside.Someone-Else wrote: ↑Mon Jan 04, 2021 8:54 pm 3 core and earth is double insulated, so long as you use a gland with an elongated hole it should be fine.

Is it difficult to get an elongated insert for the glands?

Most cable designed for use outside is black, as it resists UV light better, I have seen flat grey cable used outside, but that does not make it right, and some where it needs to power some thing outside and round profile stuffing glands seal better than oval.
