Tiling a garage floor

Post by Nos »

The new house has a large garage/ workshop attached 80m2, the house is all tiled floors dark grey, so every time we go into the garage if we don't wipe our feet correctly or more so visitors ::b ::b we have to mop the floor :boxing: so we have decided to have it tiled. Half the garage is a workshop divided by a stud wall with a laminate floor. The questions are do I need a certain thickness of tile? also how do I prevent water run off from the truck getting to the laminate floor? We are going back to a new Hilux so 2 tons.
Thought about getting the tiler to slope the tiles up by a few mil where it joins the wall but don't really know. Thanks for any thoughts. Nos

I know you're in France but it does sound fraught with potential problems.

What is the state of the existing concrete, rippled or smooth? Obviously dusty, might be better to seal it.

Are you (or a future occupier) ever likely to jack up a vehicle in the garage? Tiles won't stand up to that, you'd need solid bedded paving slabs - power floated floor would be better.

If it's simply to absorb water off the truck, wipe feet clean, flop down a carpet offcut & replace it when it gets dirty.

Its a new floor very smooth, power floated as you said, my days of laying underneath cars are long gone :huray: Have thought about paint but will not cure the water problem did think about one of those very cheap short pile carpet, so that may be the better option, thanks.

Have now decided to use heavy duty carpet tiles, easy to change if one should it get damaged, and a lot cheaper, also better to walk on and non slip if wet. :huray:
