I had a green bosch for years which worked fine and was relatively cheap. Since switching from a corded to an 18v dewalt multi tool I find myself using it more often.

I like the dewalt XR picked it up with the tstak case and accessories for £130.

I do not think I would do big money on one unless you are going to use it day in day out. I bought a corded Bosch PMF 180 many years ago new for £50. I cannot say I have used it loads but it has come in very handy for lots of little jobs that need a plunge cut like skirting and floorboards. The anatomy of the machine looks like an angle grinder with an oscilatting gearbox. I see on eBay Chinese ones for £30. I bought a lot of Chinese tools over the years, more the occasional use tools than those that get hammered but I still have them, and they still are going. Truth be told all the big brands probably have a load of badged Chinese made stuff.

For £30 you can buy three for what you would pay for a premium brand. They do the same thing.

Just a view.

My Parkside version from Lidl has been fine. I'd have bought a "better" one had I not bought it so late in my career, but you can't go wrong for £30 and a three year guarantee.
One day it will all be firewood.

I got it from an offical Dewalt reseller, it was the kit with 2 x 5.0ah batteries but those had been removed and I assume sold separately. So I got the tstak and all the accessories for the same price as the standalone unit. I was happy.

I would always recommend going for cordless as you deffo get more use out of the tool. However you can buy 18/20v budget brands now so no need to spend big.

I went for the dewalt has I have other kit plus got a good deal.

Before that I had the same as DW, got good use out of it but realised I needed a cordless when I was using it to cut around the edges of a ceiling which was being pulled down and replaced.

thanks for all your replies. the comments here mirror the google search where Dewalt came out tops, but interesting that lots of you had good experiences with budget tools. i'm going to wait for easter BH in case of any offers.

thanks

While you wait, this is a good video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=crw5eot ... illBuilder

Most of the leading brands compared.

If I hadn't bought the Dewalt I think I'd have gone for the Screwfix erbauer multi-kit with drill/saw/batteries etc. SF usually have own brand sales around Easter.

i have noticed that dewalt tools are increasing in price if available, i have the DW cordless Multitool for DIY and used it a lot, i now only use the saxon blades , much better the blades that were in the Kit i purchased, and purchased DW blades , but found they did not last long.
what other cordless tools do you have - once you purchased you may feel tied into that brand, then just a set of batteries works across all the tools
I got the Kit in screwfix, 2x 2AH batts and blades plus t-stak case , when on offer ,
BUT i have been looking at adding a few other DW tools and the price from last year has gone up in some cases just under 50% - My Corded sliding Mitre saw was £399 now £550 ish , but mostly out of stock.
FFX have a few items expected in April now

now is not the time to buy most things if you are looking for value for money
you need the supply line to open fully and production to increase to the point it was about 2 years ago where there was a glut with gimmicks competition used to shift the excess and get people loyal to a battery format and brand
famine =shortage and paying over the odds to get your hands on
feast = a glut with people needing to shift stock to pay the bills

You'll end up spending more on the cutting blades than the tool itself so spend wisely and get the right bits.

The price of batteries has rocketed hasn't it?

Kicking myself, around Xmas screwfix had a drill driver kit with charger and 2 x 5.0ah batteries for £150. I don't need the drill but batteries alone are £125 ...

batteries at there best where £11 per amp [5ah £55 4ah £44]with the odd £40/£50 and 6ah flexvolt without failure where £88
thats about 2 years ago
you also need to be careful when reading as 2x5ah batteries may actually be 1x2.5ah battery or 1x 5ah
