What are your experiences regarding getting a prebuilt 1.2m long unit up the stairs in a usual council estate block? Is it doable?
This is going to be the largest of the ones I buy:

If you think about it how do sofas get in using the same route? I cannot think that no flats in the block have them because of access.

I don't know, I bought a sofa that came in 4 pieces and was assembled. My kitchen worktops (3 meter long) had to be lifted onto the balcony using ropes so I am a bit worried about pre-assembled units. I take it then that they do fit?

The flats would have been designed with access for bulky items to get in, I would have thought a 1.2m length would be okay. You have the fallback of using a rope to haul it up if the (much heavier) worktops came in that way.

think off it logically
i am 1.75 tall x400x600 roughly and dont have to stoop or walk through doors at an angle or in a funny way
providing the door openings are say 660mm/2ft3" wide i cant see a problem even approaching from an angle
public stairwells tend to be wider wider than domestic so if you can get it to the front door your sorted

I sometimes walk through doors at an angle and in a funny way, but that's when I've had a Scotch or two too many..

If you are ordering online from DIYK (been there done that*) you can specify (as you raise the order for each item) for particular units to be flat-packed due to access issues, then glue them yourself on site, it's not rocket-science. Just add a note to the item on the page & they follow the instruction.
For instance, I knew I would have issues with a couple of carcases to modify, specified "no glue" and although they were delivered assembled, they knocked apart easily, did my bits (cooker hood & duct cutouts) then glued the joints back together.
* Customer Service Aftersales has been excellent.
