Sub Floor Preparation.

Post by REX »

I have uneven floorboards in my lounge and wish to level them with 9.5mm x 8` x 4` sheets of Softwood Plywood, as these are considerably cheaper than 12mm. My question is - is there to much flexibility in the 9.5mm, and would this result in the finished job ` MIRRORING `the sub floor underneath? { I would be screwing down each individual board 6``centres}. Appreciate advice- thanks!

I'd lift the floorboards and level the beams. Then fix the boards back down level....

Or seal the gaps and use a self levelling compound!!!

Whats the leveling for....Laminate, Tiles etc!!!

9.5mm is fine over existing floorboards

Overall flexibility of 9.5mm isnt the problem

Its flex along the joints that you should concern yourself with

Biscuit jointing would help. If there is a LOT of unevenness in the floor even biscuits might not hold for ever

didnt answer the mirroring

it depends on how uneven the floor is and the surface you are putting in it.

carpet with underlay doesnt matter

laminate with a 6mm underlay will hide post things

not as bad as that laminate with 2mm underlay
