Cordless drill v Cordless impact driver
Have always used my cordless battery drill for drilling and screwing screws etc with its clutch and 2 speed.
See many diy/professionals using cordless battery impact drivers.
Whats the advantage using the impact drivers over the drill screw drivers

hey have far more punch than a normal drill but you only really need them for large/ long screws, like screwing sleepers together or decking. Too much power for your 1" number 8 screw!
Good for shifting really tight old screws too.

Thanks.
Got some 400 or more stainless 4mm x 40mm screws to put onto a fence is why I asked.

The danger is you could tighten the screwhead right through the fence boards with an impact. An ordinary drill/drover would be better I feel.

Stainless screws shear and cam out much easier than ordinary screws ,even more so with an impact driver. Advice is usually to drive an ordinary screw in first to cut a thread, This means three times the work however, screw in, screw out then replace with stainles

A little while ago i brought the dewalt twinpack , drill and impact , to replace my old 14.4 volt drill/driver that was getting towards the end of it's life. One advantage is of course the drill can have a pilot bit and the impact can have the screwdriver bit so less faffing around changing bits. The impact took a little getting used to but with the trigger control it's possible to be fairly gentle and i've even used it to put in slotted brass screws.

I have a Dewalt 887 3 speed impact driver. The lowest speed is a gentle screwdriver setting which is useful for small screws, the higher two are full bananas impact driver modes. As Banjerbill says stainless steel screws & impact drivers don't play well together.

Unless you have a 3-speed impact driver that is

as an aside
with brushless technology many many tools multi function and multi control with amazing levels off delicate control are all electronic so your 887 impact has no gears but is given 3 separate levels off performance chosen by an electronic position switch rather than gearing
