Hikoki (known as Metabo-HPT in the USA) have not only brought out a cordless trimmer recently.
Which is already available in the UK, but they have also announced a proper cordless plunge router, as opposed to a jumped up laminate trimmer. This new tool is a 36 volt 1/2in plunge router, the M3612DAJPZ, which runs on either a dual voltage 18/36 volt battery or a mains voltage adaptor
Expected price around £330 (bare, Toolbritannia) ot £420 (with charger and 1 x 2.5Ah 36v battery, Toolstore UK) when they get here

Currently only available in Japan, Australia and NZ they are reportedly selling like hot cakes

BTW mods, any chance if changing the section name from "Hitachi" to something like "Hikoki/Hitachi"? After all the name changed more than 2 years ago

It can use either an 18/36 volt dual voltage battery or a mains adaptor and transformer which supports up to about 1100 watts power tool and plugs into the battery receptacle with a piece which looks a lot like a battery. They look to be about £160 in the UK

the trouble you have is the strength off the motor comes from the field windings pushing against the neodymium magnet
now you can increase the volts in the windings and this will increase the push against the magnet but withought a stronger [possibly bigger magnet] to push against the push cant be turned into extra power so space limitations and weight limitation have to be worked round and a compromise reached when trying to increase power

some of the battery stuff is class now like. ive only any experience with dewalt flex volt. used the table saw, mitre saw with the 2 batteries, the battery stihl type saw.

I'm fairly certain, Fin, that for domestic 1st and 2and fix you can now do everything without a mains cord in sight. For more specialised stuff like listed buildings, shop and bar fit, etcthere are still some tasks where traditional corded tools cannot yet be challenged (e.g alligator saws, full size recip saws, 9in or larger rip saws, 9in grinders, etc) although cordless tools are definitely getting better and having the ability to hook up to a mains supply is a great idea

This cordless stuff does cost a fortune though.

What's hikoki cordless mitre saw offering like? Do they do a 9ish inch 36v with 110v concertos lead?

I don't know - I have a Makita cordles chop saw!

the dewalt battery mitre saw is mint like. id probs even sell my kapex to get one.

save all the mess on with a transformer etc

Think kapex belongs in a joinery shop or on very fine work.
Not one to be humping in and out of van every day on house bashing

Plus then it's all cordless m class extraction to £££

the stand with the kapex is very handy though.

i dunno if it may be worth while me buying the smaller dewalt 18v mitre saw as i do a fair few kithcens. maybe then i could have best of all worlds. kapex, small battery dewalt and if necessary my mates flex volt mitre saw also.

i use the kapex stand for lots of repeat cuts which it is great for.
