Hi, please could someone advice me of the approximate cost for labour of the fitting of 4 FD30 internal doors. Each would require the door stops to be repositioned too. I've been quoted £500 which would mean £125 per door. Is repositioning door stops something that is much more labour intensive and that bumps up the price, or is repositioning them quite standard? Thanks for any help.

Time for repositioning the stops depends on whether they're planted stops, (nailed/screwed on) or rebated from the solid. Nailed is reasonably quick, rebated is a minefield.

On pricework, I once spent two years second fixing two bedroom flats, 7 doors in all, five of them F/C, I used to just swing all five in a morning, that's just doors trimmed as necessary, hinges fitted and doors actually hanging. Still plenty to do, but it doesn't take that long to just hang them.

It sounds like an easy question to answer, but it isn't, it has too many variables, such as labour rate where you are, access t o job, what is actually involved, and then the crunch, if person Q (on any forum) says it will be £97, and person R says it will be £199 +vat you then have the question of which one is correct, and you still have to get someone to come round see and quote for the job, so why not get two quotes to do the job and take it from there.

Thanks for your responses. You're right, getting multiple qoutes is the best solution. Unfortunately, I have only had one reply, and that person qouted without a visit. For other trades too, many do not reply. They are really busy at the moment. So the carpenter in question is in much the same position as people on this forum, so I thought it was worth asking for a rough figure. We are in the South East.

I had an external (inside building ground floor) and kitchen door upgraded to FD30, the surveying Co. were national credited, the supplier also well established; the spec sheet was very detailed but the job was a complete shambles. The doors were incorrect size and the workmen sent with them, after making a trip to B&Q to get another door lining and did a lot of trimming, managed to fit the front door to the kitchen; then went away complaining it was not their fault the items supplied were wrong, ; the manufacturer, to save face etc, sent their own carpenter but even he had to make 2 visits to sort the mess and missing parts.
My advice make sure the one surveying is the one fitting and the parts are listed or supplied by same, also the finish needs spec or will it be left unfinished in which case the choice of coatings can become a fire hazard. The door and metal parts need to have the stamp of the fire rating too.
For just fitting and securing hardware and Intumescent seals, this seems to me to be a reasonable price.

I'd have said 100 per door after reading the title. 125 isn't a million miles off. Lots of variables that can't be seen on the interweb. You might find a young green lad who will do a great job for 50 ea, you could get a complete cowboy for 200 ea

id deffo want atleast £100 per fire door like.

i normally start with £65 per door for a bog standard egg box door. doors do not go straight into the hole that often. often it can be an hour minimum just to get it to a size that will fit the opening let alone hinges etc

then again ya go on facebook and all the local to you whinging f*ck networks (for me its south tyneside parent network) you go on there and theres every man and his dog who call out decent prices and think that a door should cost £20 to hang. the things will be in upside down for that price. then again i know actual joiners who hang them for £20 a door. the idiots. mind you.... ya can tell when you see their work
