ive just completed a door job on a house for a repeat customer. i fitted oak shaker doors and i used the newington latch packs that ya get at howdens.

however....... ive discovered that i need to use parliament hinges. i at the time didnt think of this.....

is it possible to buy 3 inch parliament hinges or are they only available in 4 inch?

I think they're only in 4" - if they were 3" the actual hinged section would be quite short for the weight and extra stress caused by the width.

Broad butts (as in Mike's link) are the way to go.

yes the search term helps "extended reach/broad butts /wide throw "
but be aware as some items wont work

i tried projection hinges too but could only get 4 inch there also.

ill register for an account on that linked site but the prices there were £30 ish per hinge.... i need 6 so maybe better just to go with 4 inch parliament and just chop the current hinges out a bit more

assuming a standard door off around 44mm and a leaf normally set in 22-25mm anyway you wont have much wiggle room on44 perhaps 10-12mm max and say 6mm less if you dont want to visually break the front face off the door with the hinge showing :dunno: ??

done it... went with the parliament hinges from screwfix as i could get them straight away and had to have them on ready for the decorator on monday morning.

what a pain in the arse it was to do them though especially the door with the pair maker on
