Special tool head? Any ideas?

Post by Lewishart »

Hi guys

Just joined to hopefully find out what this bizare screw head is called, it’s on a vintage camera that I’m trying to fix.

Looks like a inverted Phillips or something.
Any clues?
Thanks ahead

You would need a small c spanner for that

Like these but smaller

If you can't find small enough this type of thing is also used for camera disassembly

I think I'll take two chickens...

I think trhey are called star nuts? There is a tool with pins that removes them like on an angle grinder. I would try tapping it undone with a punch and hammer first.

Yes, I've got a couple of small peg spanners with square pegs that are ages old, but fit some of those type of things. I've not seen any tools online for them, and I looked fairly recently.
There is a tool available for the hollow centre screw used to hold some clock movements on to the face. Slightly different type of screw, but might work.
There's the type for camera lenses Razor links to above. I've got one of those for camera lenses. They work quite well, but I wonder whether you'd get the pegs close enough together.
Another possible is the type of tool used for some screw on watch backs.

When I've come across the type in the OP, I've usually got away with using as small pair of snipe nosed pliers end on.
