Hi
I want to relocate a double wall socket on same wall same height shifted by 2m.
can I do this way: Keep existing metal box, use 3 wago connectors for L,N & E to connect existing cable to new cable, place the 3 wagos in the metal box and put blanking plate, run the new cable on the wall with trunking to the required location and connect to socket with surface mount box.

Thanks

Either way is OK but how are you going to test anything?

Socket tester, obviously

I don't think that is what he meant.

How many cables are feeding the current socket? If it is two, you should use 6 wagos and 2 cables.

Just one cable going to the socket, must be radial. I need 3 wagos, 2 way lever connectors each.

If it was two cables feeding socket, why not use 3 wagos with three way lever connectors each?

Simples (As a certain meerkat says)

If you had 2 cables imagine one is "flow" the other is "return"

To to keep ring integrity both flow and return must be extended.

If you were to join all 3 cables "flow, return & extension" at the same point (i.e. before the extension) you still have the main ring, but the extension is now a spur from that ring, if you did it as I said first, the extension would also be on the ring.

It is simple misunderstandings that cause problems. e.g. using a socket tester and believing it "will do/be ok"

This is NOTHING PERSONAL, so don't take it as such, I look at it that I am correcting your potential error.

It is allowed to take a spur from a ring main as far as doesn't exceed the limit. Unless taking a spur from a spur which needs fused spur. What is my potential error if I had 2 cables?

Can you leave the existing socket in place amd take a spur off the back of the socket to the new socket? Much simpler.

. Might be a Spur off a ring, are you sure?

. Only if it is a true radial!

Ok as Neelix answered, yartin was asking to just extend a radial or maybe its a spur but not adding another because he is blanking off the existing position.
Or am I just as confused by all the none relevant side issues?

Yes it is radial. I turned the rcd off that socket form CU and there is only one other socket on that circuit. I went to each room and all wall sockets, shaver point, immersion, shower pump, boiler, gas fire ignition and all lights were live.

No I can't leave existing socket because I changed door opening and this socket is just by the architrave, so you go into the room to turn the lights as you do and you are in direct contact with the socket, dangerous. So I put a blanking plate and smart wireless Quentic light switch there.

My post was just to ask if using Wagos was the right way to extend the cable and position wall socket on same wall, that's all. I could fill it and paint the wall instead of blanking plate but like it to be serviceable and accessible.

That's my opinion, if Neelix doesn't like it then up to him. Please do not reply to my posts again, I don't need your input.

Do not rubbish what people say, this is a forum not a pub.

Mate … you are saying something is dangerous when it’s clearly not

Stop spreading rubbish

I emailed NICEIC asking about having the socket as in my scenario, their reply was:

"We would recommend that you do consider how the socket outlet is to be used, including any possible trip hazards created by having a socket outlet in such close proximity to a doorway."

So now we know who was uttering rubbish and spreading them.

I hope the mods make note of this as such is not good for the forum.
