Rubber protection grommets for wires in back boxes

Most of the metal boxes for mains sockets and light switches in my house have rubber grommets in the holes to protect the wires that are coming through the hole. This protects the cables from rubbing against the sharp edge.
However, there are a few that have not been done. I don't want to ask an electrician to unscrew the wires so that the rubber grommet can be hooped through and installed the the metal back box hole, so I was wondering if I could do this myself by cutting a rubber grommet, so that it can be installed with the wires left in situ. I'm sure the grommet would stay in place as there's unlikely to be movement in the back box that would make the grommet fall out.
Thoughts or concerns with this idea?
