Ubuntu scrolling issue

Got a problem I can't properly describe to even find a search solution!!!

Running Ubuntu. When on any internet page I used to be able to use the cursor keys to scroll up/down (rolling scroll) but now I have an 'insertion bar' on the screen that just jumps from one word to the next - bit like when you're editing in a word processor.

I can't switch this off - don't even know how I turned it on! but the cat was stamping all over the keyboard the other night and probably hit the 'right' key combo - how do I turn this VERY ANNOYING insert thingy off?

Thanks for trying but - no, that's not the issue.

It's so annoying I'm almost tempted to re-install Ubiuntu!! There must be a 'hot key' that started it but I can't even word a description of what has happened (or what the cursor is doing) to discover the answer!

Fixed!

Wasn't an Ubuntu issue after all - it was linked to the browser I'm using (Brave) and doesn't occur when running Firefox so I checked for this issue using Brave as the first search term (with cursor scrolling) and discovered Brave has a 'caret browsing' mode (W. T. F.?) that is enabled/disabled using F7.

My thanks to Skye (the cat) for dancing on my keyboard and hitting the right (wrong) button.

Something similar happened to me a long while ago when running Firefox - somehow I turned on 'audio description' for web pages and wondered why the browser ran so bloody slowly - with the audio 'off' I couldn't hear it talking its way around a page and taking up loads of resources doing so! Took me over a day to figure that one out!
