I need to construct some bespoke wardrobes in the corner of a bedroom. This has a laminate floor. Should I measure and cut out the laminate where the wardrobes will be or just construct on top of the laminate?

The problem comes in the future should you want to change the floor, or remove the wardrobe for a room design change. As you will possibly fix the wardrobe floor rails through the laminate it should not cause an issue as it will pinch them tightly through the laminate under cushion. The wardrobe could just sit on the laminate using the wall fixings alone of course.

I'm actually constructing them to my own design and they will be from floor to ceiling and quite substantial and so they will be fixed to the ceiling and also to the floor as well as the walls. They will be a permeant fixture rather than moveable one. So if they are substantial and permanent do I cut of the laminate or leave it? I suppose it is similar to asking if it's ok to build a stud wall onto laminate floor.

Look at it this way.

If the substantial wardrobe is such a fixture that it is a permanent part of the room, then the flooring should be (cut out) laid up to it, in case the flooring were ever to be replaced, due to wear or fashion change.

If the wardrobe, although substantially constructed, ever needed to be done away with, to make the room larger, then the floor should stay (and not be harmed by fixings).

Thank you for your answer and help. I will most likely cut out the laminate. This then raises another question of how do I cut it out. Please don't take this as a question for you to answer. I'll Google it to see how to do this.
