Good deal or do you think Festool is overpriced?

If I was spending that much money on 1/4" I'd be going cordless...

Festool is to joiners what Snap-On is to motor technicians.

If you're good enough to charge high prices, you can afford the best equipment, and it reinforces your reputation. But to the average DIY'er, the cost for occasional use cannot really be justified by sensible people.

I have a lot of Snap-On, bought second hand, that I don't really need but love the quality (so I'm not sensible) - the joiner I use has all Festool, he's brilliant at what he does but charges me accordingly! You should see some of the computerised machinery in his workshop (manufactures oak staircases), just amazing.

I have a fair bit of Festool gear myself including a Domino but going Fest means buying into the complete ecosystem in the same way you pick a battery system then buy all the tools that fit.

For a one off purchase you'd be better off with something like Trend (FFX have them on special at the moment) or as I said a battery version to suit whatever platform you use.

The Festool system has tye advantage where you can swap cards about, use the track saw rails etc. But it all comes at a big price and isn't worth it unless you're going to buy all the kit

I often wonder if there is Lacoste polo shirt syndrome here, you pay £80 for the crocodile emblem? Whilst I accept that Festool tools are of good quality do they do anything differently from a cheapo? For a router, it is the quality of the cutters that is most important, secondly the bearings and then to a certain extent the motor. The design will be reflected in the noise vibration and harshness during use. I am just not convinced the price is justified for most. Still, I am a tight arse.

Festool do certain things very well.

As you mention low vibration etc and generally they have excellent dust extraction compared to most makes.

I went for the Mafell tracksaw and I wouldn't swap it for the Festool

Don't get me wrong Ray, I would love to have one too  For the record, I have a number of Lacoste and Ralph Lauren shirts but being a cheapskate I got them when we were in America on holiday.
