I sold something on ebay, buyer paid via ebay pay, not PayPal (Not 100% sure if they are the same) ebay took £75 as fees

(was expecting £50)

Buyer gets item all nicely wrapped, but says item doesn't work as it should, doesn't say dead, just not working as it should, wants refund.
Emails go back and forth, try this, do this, all no use. Buyer volunteers to take it to a shop. Buyer does, shop says yes, it works but it does have a part that doesn't work, which is the problem.
Buyer sends item back.
Item arrives, much to my surprise all that was sent (paperwork, accessories) comes back (Nothing missing)

I test item, guess what, all works as it should, as it did when I sent it.

Funny thing is, buyer is selling same type of item, no not a swap, different model than mine. I can't help but wonder why did he do that.

Have you ever had a "problem with a buyer" on ebay?

Yes, had one recently where I sold a BT Home Hub 5 (change of provider resulted in new equipment). It fetched more than I expected, but the buyer returned it saying he expected to be 'as new' and it had dust visible in the ventilation slots.

Trouble is, and have previous experience over many years, both ebay & amazon ALWAYS favour the buyer. The seller can argue he's right, quite legitimately & truthfully, but will lose without doubt.

When in business, my firm and many others sold thousands and thousands of a particular item (in packs of ten) on both platforms, until one day a reviewer complained she'd cut her finger when cleaning one (single item) after use - meant to be disposable - and A-zon axed the product overnight, for all sellers. The importer had dozens of pallet loads in stock they couldn't shift.

If you sell on eBay just make sure your description is accurate - even include the presence of 'dust' if thats an issue - as the buyer can't argue if you sell it 'as described'.

It was, (it really was) and when it came back, it worked 100%
I did ask them to take a picture of what was wrong, they never sent one, I can only guess he didn't want it.

I am also not going to sell on ebay ever, besides I am going to be restricted soon (I have to send in a copy of my ID, I have done that once already, not again) and for me to sell I have come to the conclusion, I really is not worth it. Great place to buy though.

eBay has gone a bit strange lately.

I've been a member for 19yrs although I don't use it much now as there are too many fakes on it plus the seller's fees ain't worth it now FB Marketplace seems to be the place to sell most stuff.

I sold something last week but eBay froze the money until the 8th of October. Apparently, I had to validate my bank account. As I said I've been a member for 19yrs. The buyer and I made contact outwith eBay, he paid into my bank account and the goods are on route to him as we speak so eBay will get sweet f*ck all!

Yep - eBay has dropped Paypal as a payment method (to sellers - Paypal is still usable for buyers) and are now insisting that you hand over your bank account details and THEY make the payment to your account. Still doesn't stop them taking their cut though.

I'm now finding that Paypal are 'withholding' withdrawls i.e. we get loads of payments via Paypal and are transferring money into our account regularly but whereas the transfer was 'instant' i.e. we could transfer it before going to the shops and find it in our account when we got there) they are now delaying transfers up to 2 days depending on the size of movement.

Summats up.....

I had one recently , sold an old led tv on thier was down for collection only . However some person bought and asked if I could package and courier which I did after agreeing a price . Delivery instructions we odd and I question them to which I got a Curt reply saying was ok never had problem , it was leave in porch as he was deaf and didn’t always hear bell .

Upshot got delivery receipt , and two days later advised parcel not arrived and he was fed up with other parcels disappearing ! and some nasty threats in email to the effect this guy signs off with his qualifications, a solicitor !

Wrote back with delivery receipt and copies of the email correspondence re delivery instructions and advised happy to go to court on this basis with him and or e bay , what would he like to do ? Funny never got a reply.

PAYPAL AND EBAY are ultimately the same , replaced the lifts in thier offices in Richmond Surrey , two buildings opposite each other !

Not any more, they parted company in 2015. eBay now have their own system and are trying to phase Paypal out.
