Can Dull File Tool be Restored?

I have 6-inch fine file but its double cut grooves are almost flattened.
Don't know why I still hold it in my chest because if such tools cannot be restored then I will just throw it away.

A file has to be made from tough metal in order to be able to file..................metal, so you will need an even tougher metal (or heat) to "sharpen" it.
Bin it and buy a new one (You can get a set of 3 for £7)

Someone-Else, That will leave me with 12-inch double cut, medium grade flat file. I am considering buying 8-inch fine grade, single cut file. Would those be enough or should I additionally consider 6-inch single cut, medium grade flat file?

We can't really say "You need this file" As s-e suggests, get a set of 3 files, use them, and if you need anything different then get that.
As with most hand tools it takes practice and skill to get accurate results from filing.
There is, as always, lots of stuff about files and filing online.
In particular, don't chuck your files all together in a drawer or with other tools. It blunts them.

Dave54, I rarely use file but when I do, I want to make sure I use one that does most of the job for DIY home stuff. I like less is more approach.

The answer depends on what it is you intend to do, and what the material is. I would say it is better to have a tool and hardly use it, than to need a tool you do not have. (Except for really high priced tools)
