I've started collecting my last set of cordless power tools (semi-pro instead of the usual Aldi stuff) by getting Erbauer stuff. The batteries, as usual, are rather expensive (£50+ each) so I was pleased to find one on eBay for a tenner! It was sold as 'dud' though but I'm always game for a challenge!

It arrived Saturday and was, as described, a dud BUT closer inspection of the insides revealed a 'blown' tag-strip fuse (really just a crack in it) that was easily fixed at zero cost.

This is the kind of price I like my batteries at :thumbright:

If anyone has any EBAT18 (EXCT 18V range) batteries they need to dispose of.........

Cordless power tool batteries are the DIYers equivalent of print cartridges for PC users.

The cells (anywhere from 4 to 8 in a battery) cost under $1 (bulk price) each but the pack costs £50+....???? Nope. T'aint right.

You are paying for cells, circuits, R&D but mostly you are paying insurance.

Really? The how come I can get a battery for an Aldi tool for half the price of a Makita, Ryobi, Milwaki etc? and Aldi will STILL be making a profit on it at £30? I've seen the insides of both types and can assure you that the technology is similar.

I've heard too many stories of the knock off batteries going dodgy or not being truthful with the amps. I'm a professional user ain't got time to mess about buying knock off batteries.

I wouldn't/don't use knock off batteries either - not sure where you got that impression. It's a 'gripe' about price - evidence that we're being 'scammed' can be seen from the 'almost' identical construction of most types yet the minor plastic lug changes stop you using them with other devices. Of course there are some good reasons for not making them interchangeable but the insides are as good as identical no matter which make you buy.

I use predominantly DeWalt 9ah Flexivolt batteries although I have a couple of 4ah Floreon batteries I've had a couple of years and they're still going strong.

I have a McAllister hedge trimmer. I've been looking around for a battery and charger without success. Buying one new would be worth more than the hedge trimmer. I won't chuck it so still looking.

Have a look on eBay for battery adapters. I got one that mounts the Aldi battery and I'm bolting it to an old Rolson 1/2" impact driver that used to have a 24V nicad pack. It's not going to look pretty but it will work.

Sorry Kelly's eye I see how it came across like I was having a dig I didn't mean it like that. I know you're on about different brands as opposed to knock off batteries to fit makita dewalt etc

The branded battery will be expected to last a lot longer and get used more than the aldi, also will be used on much more important work than DIY stuff. The tool it fits will also be expected to last a lot longer and there is an element of loss leader in some of the tools.
