Not worth a watch

Post by dewaltdisney »

As an alternative to my 'worth a watch' thread, I thought I would mention any films and TV series that turned out pants. This week we had two series that concluded and they are on the miss this crap list.

You Don't Know Me is a trial-based story where the black defendant is representing himself in defending against a murder charge. It is a convoluted love story wrapped up in black organised crime of drugs and prostitution. We stuck with it to be presented with a stupid alternative end which showed him both guilty and acquitted so you could choose. It was stupid and worth missing.

Close To Me started out with promise as a woman is found at the foot of her stairs with head injuries that cause amnesia. Very soon the main actors begin to grate, Christopher Ecclestone is particularly irritating and the amnesiac woman is doughy and unconvincing in the role. It plods on until it ends leaving many questions unanswered and no real conclusion other than it was her husband who was responsible for the fall which was pretty evident from the off.

Also worthy of a mention was an archeological dig at Stonehenge. Rob Bell was the presenter, who I like and usually does good programmes, but this wasn't. The whole thing could have been wrapped up in 10 minutes as this plodding constantly repeating of what had been said, investigated some prehistoric pits that turned out to be exactly that.

So if you are browsing catch up give these 3 a miss.

It's all subjective though. I've skipped a few movies because they had low ratings only to watch them a few years later and thoroughly enjoy them. My son loved the Korean Squid Games on Netflix while I thought it was absolute pish. My favourite at the moment is Billions and Yellowstone he thinks they're pish 😂

I guess that is true, Squid Game does not appeal to me but it is one of Netflix's top ten. The ones I quoted above are shite though.

Sadly it doesn't take much convincing to NOT watch something these days. The quality has dropped appallingly and I reckon PC-ness is a contributory factor for many examples.

I liked squid games but found the story part more interesting than the gory bits. My god that you don't know me was poor I gave up after episode 3. So many plot holes. I wasn't falling for the sink cost fallacy of watching 3 so may as well watch the last. Glad I didn't by the sounds.

We watched Squid Games and found it decent enough to watch despite what one might call some fairly big plot holes. We watched the dubbed version and there seems to be a debate about whether the sub titled version is better. I suppose the only real answer would be to learn korean and watch it in it's original. I'm sure , well fairly sure , the basic concept of entering a game where only one person survives and all the rest are dead has been used before either in a film or tv programme but i don't seem to be able to find it.
Like Argyll says subjective. We are currently watching Salvation on netflix , an asteroid is heading towards earth with the likelihood it being an extinction level impact and our hope lies with a maverick scientist type of thing. My wife likes it , i'm thinking it's going around the houses abit with Russian agents stealing some fancy prototype rocket. We're on episode six so far. Also on netflix is Hinterland a police series set in Aberystwyth , I like it , my wife less so. She also likes the celebrity dancing thing and I'm a celebrity whereas i find them as interesting as watching paint dry. Sometimes it's the presenters , Jermery Clarkson and Alan Carr I can't stand , others like Jonathan Ross or that Ryland bloke i find intenstly irritating and while i can grit my teeth i much prefer not to.

I watched Hinterland a few years back and I found it depressing, hardly an advert for the Welsh tourist board. Mind you it is not much better in the summer.

Given the amount of crime and death in most police series they could pretty much all be described as such but in some respects the slightly gloomy , grimy depressing air to Hinterland seems to appeal to me more than more glamourous , thrill a minute series in the same way as i prefer Harry Palmer to James Bond.

I loved all the Len Deighton books and Caine as Harry Palmer brought the character to life. They did one series from the trilogy Berlin Game, Set and Match with Ian Holm as Bernie Sampson, it did not work as well.

Started watching The Girl Before on BBC last night, we lasted 10 minutes and binned it. The usual BBC domination by black actors, a stupid and unbelievable scenario that lost us quickly.

Incidentally, I was reading that there is going to be a TV remake of The Ipcress File in view of the posts above.

What about spoty. Only 1 of the contenders on that list had any personality and it wasn't them who won. I went bed anyway so only see the result this morning. Fair play to that little skateboarding girl though.

I never watch it, a gush fest of sickening proportions. The tennis girl was always going to win, and quite frankly it is hardly a bloody accolade winning is it? A nice doorstop, nothing more.

Quite a few disppointing shows on over Christmas and we recorded what we thought would be good whcih I highlight in the alternate thread to this. One film we watched was a depressing saga called Winters Bone on Netflix. Rednecks, poverty and a hoplesss situation in backwoods USA, it was a film you though FFS why did I bother, so don't. It was a bit like the uber depressing Rust on Sky Atlantic which we binned very quickly too.
