Keeping an eye on petrol prices

Post by kellys_eye »

Well, thanks in part to ridiculous political choices I've watched as petrol prices have started rocketing with no top limit in sight.

Last week I was paying £1.56 per litre of diesel - today it was £1.72. Up over 10% in ONE WEEK!

What's your local price for petrol diesel? Any guesses where the top will be? I'm figuring on £2.25/litre before the end of the year.

at these prices its worth adjusting your driving style to smooth slow go less fasty and go to a bit slowy overall and predict the road ahead and less brum brum less screach screach and more silence in speedy uppy bit and the slowy downy bit
check the tires and dont cart about unused weight or roof racks as the convenience now comes at a huge price
plan your journey better to reduce mileage as petrol now costs more than time :dunno:

i did that during the last Petrol Shortage , as i needed to be able to travel to my daughters (130 round trip) a few times that week/fortnight - and so as its all A roads dual carriage way , i decided to keep to around 60mph - wow what a difference , we get about 42mpg from a C4 grand 2L Diesel , and now on those runs over 50mpg
Did the same with my Audi A3 - usually around the 40's maybe 44 on a trip - now 56mpg
Plus much smoother driving at lights , junctions etc

so we have done that all the time,

yep, thats me in the slow lane at around 60ish, you are all passing

Yesterday it was £1.56 at Sainsbury -
I have to leave now to my brothers which is 100miles away , this time a mixture of A roads & Motorway , so will be interesting to see what i get on that journey and will keep an eye on prices , although i'm full at the moment @ £1.50 for unleaded

We already had to think about our spend, with food and travel after the lockdowns, as we seem to spend a lot more , now we will have to cut something out .....
Not yet seen what our gas/electric will be when we are off the fixed tariff !!!!

indeed my post was designed to be quite childish rather than a lecture as fun gets the point across rather a lecture where every one turns off

I filled up yesterday at 147 and was 162 at the garage round the corner. Usually only a few pence difference between them garages. I'm doing a tank per fortnight atm. Looked at fuel cards the other night but you seem locked to certain garages

That's just tinkering at the edges b-a. Whilst, technically, it will save some fuel a simple, casual (accidental, unprovoked etc) blip on the throttle would negate that saving in an instant. We shouldn't have to be so cautious of normality to that extent. It's entirely preventable and our ire should be directed where it's deserved - straight at the Government and their ludicrous energy policies.

Marble top table

Post by Chippo1 »

Now this may well be simplistic, but UK is largely self sufficient in oil and gas , I know Brent crude is mixed with other heavier oil before cracking , but Brent is almost derv straight out of the well .

So why are we at the mercy of world prices ? Or is it blatant profiting by the oil companies at the cost of the Uk users ?
