ASHP and solar collector

Post by ukeivo »

Hello,

We have an ASHP in our detached property, but with electricity prices going skyward, I'm looking at new ways to reduce the cost of running it. I was wondering if there is any way to 'inline' a solar collector with the existing heat primary, to for eg. pre-heat the return to the ASHP, thus using solar where possible to heat the circuit, and the ASHP kicking in when needed to top up flow temp? if so, what would be the best approach to connect to existing primary return?

FT is 45deg, and feeds both DHW and UFH.

Thanks in advance, this however might all be crazy thoughts....

ASHP and solar collector

:welcomeuhm: I can't comment on what you are suggesting, it might need to be quite complicated to prevent the solar collector acting like an outside radiator  mostly a mix of heat sources needs a specific type of heat store cylinder.

Have you looked at heating the water with it?
