Not Sure if it is Worth a Watch or Not?

Post by dewaltdisney »

This new thread will have TV and streamed films and programmes that I am not sure whether to recommend as worth a watch or not.

The first show in this category was on ITV last night called Holding. I am not sure if it is supposed to be serious or funny? However it does have a gentle southern Irish charm to it and we watched it all. Just not sure yet?

Out of the Furnace - netflix
has a 6.8 rating , but was very unimpressed - pretty straight forward and most of the film is setting a backstory and very very slow

Fear Index on Sky Atlantic is a series based on a book by Robert Harris. I have read a lot of his books so I thought we would give this a try. It is one of those is he a nutter or is he being framed plots and there are a lot of irritating and unconvincing actors in it. Set in Geneva it does move along but it is a definite 50/50.

Similarly, Funeral for a Dog on Sky Atlantic also, very strange but it has sucked us in a bit. Again 50/50

We watched Windfall on Netflix. It is quite a clever story but plods along a bit with some shocking unexpected scenes that save it. It was one of those films where you want to know the outcome but the journey is a bit boring. 50/50 for this.

Funeral for a Dog on Sky Atlantic is a strange series. Somehow it has hooked us with a difficult to understand plot weaving between current time in Italy and frequent flashbacks to volunteer work in South America. Bloody strange deffo a 50/50

Just finished Fear Index on Sky Atlantic, on balance it was shite. Some very annoying actors did not help plus an easy to guess outcome. The best bit is where an extremely annoying tick box actress plummets down a lift shaft. One to miss, apart from the lift shaft scene in episode 4.

Not really a Sci-Fi fan but Halo seems pretty decent.

Having a daughter that's into everything korean I watched several films from that country. Train to Busan , The Witch , and The Handmaiden are all cracking films. A week or two ago on BBC4 there was a film called Burning. Basic plot is a guy meets an old neighbour and she introduces him to another guy who has the strange hobby of burning greenhouses ( more like polytunnels as they're plastic but I suppose greenhouse sounds better) . It was a strange film , bit of a slow burner ( pun) and I wasn't sure on where it was going and a strange end to it. Not sure if it was a good film or not although the scene where the girl dances topless to jazz in the twilight was strangely hypnotic.

There's also a rumpy pumpy scene that you'd like as well then but somehow not as memorable as the dancing one to me...

Two shows on ordinary TV I am not sure about. Deadline on C5 is plagued by irritating actors and a strange unbelievable plotline. No evidence of a Police murder investigation instead it seems to have been left to an investigative journalist to sort it out. We were going to bin it but it livened up a bit in episode 2 so we have continued for time being. It is absurd though.

The second one is a new series of The Split on BBC which we vowed not to watch because of the irritating cast and story but we relented and watched the first episode. It was not too bad if you ignore certain strands of the story and Nicola Walker's very annoying grimaces of pained half-smiles. A predictable death occurred which was a shame as the character was the most sensible in a cast of effing halfwits.
