I am trying to replace the chuck on this drill. I have tried Phillips and slotted screwdrivers no go they grip but as i put pressure to turn they slip. I think its left and thread so turn right hand turn to loosen. I enclose a pic to see what size i need. Thanks.

have you tried a ph3 ??

perhaps a ph4 as it does look large ??
can you not get a flat bit in there with a tap with a hammer??

I have tried a few ways, in a vice with a Philips and slotted it would not budge. Will have to drill it out I think. The only reason I'm trying is have a charger and 2 4.0a batteries in good nick.

how old do you think the batteries are as age effect capacity

Screws are usually fixed with loctite and can be basically impossible to remove as the heat needed to loosen the loctite will destroy the drill.

I have had good success with an impact driver, as you say it is a left hand thread.

I did completely fail on one drill though and had to resort to cutting the chuck off very carefully with an angle grinder and hacksaw.

I have a cheaper Erbauer drill and I have found the chuck to be a weakness on an otherwise good drill. I guess what you are looking at in a worst case scenario is keeping the batteries and buying a bare replacement drill for £80. I would think it is a reverse thread and you might have overtightened it going in the wrong direction? Certainly Loctite thread sealer can be a trial to undo if you cannot get a good torque on the screw and the head on that screw looks as though any driver will cam out. A manual impact might do it.

It's definitely a ph3 ph4 is to big. Can get a good grip on the screw but no enough torque. Tried with another combi drill set to low speed and 9 torgue slips all the time, but with the bit in a ratchet screwdriver holds ok but not enough pressure

i would actually avoid using another hammer drill as there is no give as in the energy is transferred with little cushion to protect the gearing
if you have an impact or can borrow one is far more likley to pulse it free rather than hammer it and break the gears
in other words the pulses off an impact can shock things loose long before the crude sudden heavy build up off stored energy from a drill

Sorted: went out and bought a impact wrench the same make as my drill. It worked great come out first time. Put new chuck on here is a pic.

nice one. drill repaired and new impacter to go with it. bonus
