HI all!!

Please allow me to introduce myself as I have just joined this forum.

My name is Daniel and I am running an online shop named UK Power Tool. This is a business I started recently and at the moment I am trying to expand my reach so I can start bringing some business to my website. I do specialize in selling Power Tools, ATA pencil grinders and storages for tools and hazardous substances. I do work with wholesale suppliers and manufacturers to fulfil my orders.

If it is okay with everyone, I would like asking from your view what are the key points to sell online from a consumer perspective and what is needed to gain trust to allow customers purchasing products with confidence. I would really appreciate your feedback about gaining credibility as a new business so I can take it on board and apply it. My intention is trying to add value by assisting customers to register their products for extended warranty with manufacturers, I offer free delivery and assistance to liaise with the first warranty claim during the first year of purchasing a product from my website. The purpose is to enable buyers to keep conducting their business activity without much disruption so they can focus on business.

For my local customers I offer some additional services due to proximity. I can keep their products with me and agree to deliver outside of business hours so they do not have to go to the shop. This way I can enable them to free up some time in their schedule and make things easier for them.

Hello Daniel, obviously this is just my opinion. Several points.

1) I admire what you are trying to achieve, I think the idea of you delivering locally sounds good but is impractical, since if you are out on the road, you can't be online answering questions, not to mention don't you have a home life? get everything delivered by courier, easier and cheaper.

2) Speaking of delivery, your website says shipping will be calculated at checkout, as an end user I don't want to pay "extra" for shipping.

3) Why would I want to deal with you for a warranty claim for the manufacturer? I can just return it from where I purchased it, that would be you.

4) Your website seems to be very specialised, not something that a DIY person would want or need.

5) Particularly with the cost of everything going up, the cost of a product would come second, brand would come first, after doing a quick search the prices listed on your website appear to be at least 33% more than I as joe blogs can buy them for.

i use ffX / D&M as a bench mark for pricing - free delivery over £15 and usually next day - I purchased large items through FFX
Just a DIYer, I'm also very price sensitive, so do look for a good deal, BUT also ecpect good customer service - which i have had from FFX when things go wrong - which they will from time to time.
I often buy accessories at the same time as the purchase, usually because i'm buying the tool for a job, and do not want to then have to go out and get accessories , when purchasing a Mitre saw , I also purchased a couple of blades - which were on offer - 60T & 80T
same for drills , multitools etc , When i purchased a Combi & Impact set, i also purchased a Drill bit kit, and some specific drill bits - bosch multi-purpose
So maybe worth having some accessories on the site - if cheap.....
And do compare various sites like amazon, and purchased from the site, UKpowertools, powertoolworld and the sheds , screwfix toolstation
I have purchased a few power tools and storage from toolstation and screwfix (usually when on a deal, which they often have good deals and a buy1get1free ) - they are also just down the road and when I had to exchange on a couple of items over the years, this was really easy to do, when a hedge trimmer went wrong after a few weeks, they just swapped it out

I know this is probably aimed at trade , as time maybe important and the OOH delivery of interest to them.... Which as you get bigger you may nolonger wish todo ......

Registering for the extended warranty - is easy - so not sure if that would be a USP
I offer free delivery and assistance to liaise with the first warranty claim during the first year of purchasing a product from my website.
its usually down to the retailer anyway to sort out warranty in 1st year - NOT the manufacture - at least thats my experience.
So I would not be interested in Assistance to Liaise , I would expect a replacement or refund - and depending on timescale - may accept a repair. But i would deal direct with you anyway

Thats just my DIYer observations

Wow, I was not expecting any responses this fast!!

Thank you so much for the feedback, I can see some very valid points to think about which I think will really help me to get things right.

At the moment I am trying to find the right combination so I can make this work.

If I may ask, would you be able to give me some tips about backlink building or maybe link to my web?

Thank you so much for the feedback and for sharing your experience, these are very useful comments

I thought of the registration help because as there is 1 month to register the extended warranty, I had the feeling many people could forget about it, this way I can make sure it is not missed out.

In terms of the returns, when I researched many different companies, they do not allow returns on items that have been used. To return and item it has to be in the same condition as delivered which is unopened.
During the first month(after the 14 day refund period)stated by the law, if there is an issue with the product, an exchange is given provided the fault has not been caused by the user.
After the first month, most shops (with the exception of authorized repair sites) send the tools to the manufacturer for warranty claims and the manufacturer would make the assessment on whether the fault is covered under warranty, if it is, most likely a replacement will be sent if the product can't be repaired.

I think, I can make this clearer on my website.

On the other hand, I like the point you made about the accessories because it makes sense that if you buy a mitre saw, it makes perfect sense blades may be needed too.
