"Reducers" query

Post by rautospoon »

Hi, Regarding brass 15mm to 10mm radiator valve "reducers" which are best, those that come as a single part or those that come as three parts ? Thank you.

Not had much experience with either, but understand this:-
Even if you are using copper pipe with the one piece, you need to be careful about the tightening torque (to judge when it starts to crush) and it is a one time fit, make a mistake and it is junk, still need an insert with plastic pipe. The 3 part uses a standard olive which most have experience with tightening, make a mistake and its just a new olive (provided you have enough spare pipe!).

If you can avoid it don't use them. Either buy 10mm valves or if you can solder then sweat 15/10 reducers on the end of the pipes.

The reducing sets do work ok if used correctly but they will always be the weakest point of the system
