No one has mentioned it, so I will.
Are you aware on Sunday 23 this month the government are testing a new general alert, your mobile phone will make a noise for 10 seconds and you will get a message saying its a test.
I thought it was a novel idea, but sirens would be better.

Would you hit a nail with a shoe because you don't have a hammer? of course not, then why work on anything electrical without a means of testing Click Here to buy a "tester" just because it works, does NOT mean it is safe.
If gloom had a voice, it would be me.

You can be anywhere you like with airplane mode on if you like, it will NOT stop it, its an emergency alert so it overrides almost everything.
I understand that even with "no signal" you can still call 999, it changes to any network it can find, so I am guessing its similar for this.

I cannot see why anyone wants to turn it off, surely you want to know if it works. The object of the alarm is a wide-ranging civil defence aid to notify people if a potential life-threatening event is close to them. I would want to know if I had an incident close to my home. Does it really matter if you get a siren sound for a few seconds? People watch BGT for an hour and that is a disaster.

Imagine all the people having affairs with secret phones hidden in the house and they don't know about it.
It's how my mate caught his ex wife. She forgot to put it on silent. He found it in her knicker drawer
I bet the divorce rate goes through the roof in the next few months.

That's a good point A, I never thought of that. A few phones will be hidden in the shed on Sunday I suspect

Only 4G and 5G phones will get it, I don't have a "smart phone" so it won't affect me. But if you are driving could the LOUD alarm distract you ?Someone-Else wrote: ↑Thu Apr 20, 2023 8:50 pm You can be anywhere you like with airplane mode on if you like, it will NOT stop it, its an emergency alert so it overrides almost everything.
