Hi can anyone advise if using hardboard in a bathroom would be okay?
I need to replace a broken old bath panel and where some pipes have been boxed in and have access to some hardboard sheets for free!
If I apply a good coating of gloss paint once done would that make it water resistant enough or can I use a sealer like you can get for mdf?

if its proper hardboard 3.2mm[1/8"] with dimples it fairly rocket proof so a sealer undercoat then as you propose will give it maximum chance

I bought a white hardboard sheet from B & Q to use (as you said) for use as a bath panel
See pic below.
Not sure how long we have had this bit, only problem is if the floor gets too wet and the hardboard soaks it up. (Cleaning bath, once shower pointed wrong way, oops)
Not sure how much it was (Not a lot, that much I do know, and it comes as white already.
Did you know? You can trim hardboard to size with a straight edge and a utility knife.
Water on its surface, not a problem, its only if water gets to the edge you have to worry.

Would you hit a nail with a shoe because you don't have a hammer? of course not, then why work on anything electrical without a means of testing Click Here to buy a "tester" just because it works, does NOT mean it is safe.

The issue is water penetration from splashes so if you tape or paint the top and bottom edge to seal it it should do some years. I have made bath panels out of MDF and I painted all sides and edges, they are still good 10 years on.
