The image shows three of my recent projects
- The cantilever pergola in the foreground. I have used posts intended for a sight fence. Roughly 70cm of the post is underground in a 50 x 50 x 70 block of concrete. I put 50cm lengths of horizontal rebars in the notches in the posts to help anchor them better in the concrete. The notches above ground were used to create the climbing support for the Chinese Wisteria
- In the background you see my dry stone (shale) wall. There is a companion wall on the other side of the steps
- On the right hand side, also in the background, you see the steps. The steps were made from Douglas fir. I constructed them as U shaped frames with two through holes on each side which were used to hammer 12mm rebars 1m into the ground. Each subsequent step is anchored to the one below it in the same way, albeit with a 70cm rebar. Geotextile is used to retain alternate layers of 10-20mm round gravel and red cedar bark.
