Hi,
Just bought a house and downstairs has laminate flooring, which although sound, is rather worn.
My intention was to rip it up and replace it with click-together vinyl planks, however I’ve discovered a stud wall has been built on top of it and I’m wondering for the sake of time saving, whether it’s a terrible idea to put the vinyl planks straight over the top of it?

Take the skirting off and see if the laminate is just underneath. Usually laminate is a floating floor with an expansion gap hidden by the skirting so you might be lucky in some respects but it does mean all the skirting has to come off and be refixed after you lay your new planks. Quite frankly that is the right way to do it, a bit more work but a pro finish.

you need to check your subfloor and make sure it is 100% before you lay click lvt or it will fail. if its a chipboard floor likely youll be alreet. if its a older timber floor boards you may be best off overboarding with ply. if its concrete you need to smooth it all with a layer of self level screed.
