Sink Unit for garage conversion size help!

Post by thecount »

I'm currently converting my garage into a gym but luckily, the builders who built it ran a cold water feed from the mains into there. So we are going to look at getting a 2-unit wide (I guess that is 600 + 600 only?) wide kitchen base unit from somewhere and perhaps two up-and-over wall cupboards.

Don't know how to upload images to posts as its not letting me or I would share my image of what I mean

We are going to be putting one of those hot water instant boiling water taps into it which has a boiler unit inside it which is 275h X 188w x 188d - given the kitchen unit I guess will be around 600 deep then I should be fine with this?

We also want to put a build in or freestanding drinks cabinet like the one in the photo, so it sits flush with the cabinet on the left.

A few questions:

The up-and-over cabinets - I guess you can't get any which are shallower than that I presume is a standard depth of 30cm?

The base unit - does anyone do shallower ones rather than the usual 600? and IF there is someone, would I still be able to find a shallow drinks cabinet, and fit a bowl in it and fit the tap boiler above?

The reason for this is that this unit is immediately to your left as you walk in from the personnel door.

Thanks

If you need shallower units it might be an idea to look at bathroom units as opposed to kitchen stuff. I don't think I've seen a kitchen wall unit less than 300mm but have definitively seen shallower bathroom cabinets. Likewise for the base units you can get shallower vanity units complete with a smaller sink off the shelf. Alternatives are to cut the back off the base unit or to use wall units as the bases. Legs can be brought seperately if required. Or you could construct your own base units and just buy the doors or even just make your own doors. As to the size of available drinks cabinets I don't really know although small fridges are available so perhaps one of those could work.

Far be it from me to pee on your bonfire of enthusiasm but have you thought through how this room will be used? Will you need constant hot water or would a kettle suffice? Being in close proximity to the house where presumably you have all facilities I would have thought basic stuff with a bedroom fridge for a cold drink after a workout would be a stretch too seeing as you could take a drink in with you. A few coat hooks for coats and towels are all that you really need I would have thought.

I've got full sized kitchen units in my garage but then it's quite wide if not very deep but still big enough to actually use it to put a car in. I too have a cold water feed ( and a toilet) so have plumbed in a sink. It's not however actually in the garage it's a belfast just outside the back door. Useful for those cleaning jobs such as wellies and paint brushes that mrsG doesn't like me doing in the kitchen sink...
