Replacing External Soil Pipe

Post by Distorted Vision »

The external soil pipe previously had a slight leak a few years ago and was repaired by Homeserve.
The lower half is look unsightly and I wanted to have it replaced. I was wondering approximately how much it will cost. Can they just replace the affected lower sections?

It is limescale staining and you can remove it with a bit of patience and elbow grease. Spray it with Viakal and leave for 10 minutes and then spray again and scrub it with a nail brush. or similar stiff bristle brush. It might take a few applications but I am sure it will clean up.

Great thanks DWD. I'll give it a go if it ever stops raining.

It does look like it is leaking from the joint above the boss, as I understand it, you don't want to take it off. Is the bottom part cast iron? and what does it run into?
Above are my opinions Below is my signature.

Would you hit a nail with a shoe because you don't have a hammer? of course not, then why work on anything electrical without a means of testing Click Here to buy a "tester" just because it works, does NOT mean it is safe.

Yes the 1 1/2" pipe on the left can be cut and rejoined into a new lower section stack. That will get rid of the leak as well.

Materials wise probably a shade under 50 squids and half a days labour in total by the time they've got everything etc. I'd probably budget £200/£250 depending on your area and a proper site survey.

PS looks like Homeswerve didn't fix it very well....
I think I'll take two chickens...

It's all plastic and goes straight into the ground. My own concern is would they need to remove the surrounding patio flagstones. I paid a lot of money to have the whole patio re-pointed last year. There is a row of Aco drains on the wall so either side of the soil stack going into the ground.

How did the Viakal go? As it is plastic you could resort to painting it with Plastikote but I am sure the Viakal will remove it.
