My waterbutts came with rather cheap fixtures.
On the back of the tap is a plastic "nut":
It's so far down inside the butt, I have to hold it whilst my wife rotates the tap to tighten.
There is also a pipe connecting two butts, again very low down and this has a flush back so impossible to tighten properly:
All the connectors leak, even the nutted one, which I can get reasonably tight.
Any suggestions for better connectors? Or ways to seal?

For ways to seal, almost the same as sealing a sink waste, washers / silicone sealent. The good thing with cheap plastic connectors are if needed they are easy to break off and replace / reseal.
With metal ones if they have correded (which they will as are sat in water all the time) then your not cracking that nut off at anytime if you need to replace or re seal.
