Self closing door
Morning forum members, I have hopefully a simple question to start the day.
We have just had an En Suite built off our Master Bedroom and the practicalities of having one of these (our first) are coming to light.
The door from the bedroom to the ES is a standard internal door which being a bloke, tend to leave open when in residence. My wife, being more modest would like it to automatically close after someone enters.
My first thought was to fit some rising hinges but we have both stayed in hotel rooms where the toilet door has a ‘soft close’ facility. Door banging shut at 3:00 is not a good idea.
Has anyone any suggestions as to door hardware (hinge and handles) that would help
Regards

Self closing door
Have a look at a fire door closer, Cheap easy to do as a retrofit, and unobtrusive. Avoid the £5 ones, the screws are naff.

Hi Dewaltdisney
Thanks for the prompt response.
Had seen the item you mentioned but wondered about my ability to drill a 6” long hole that is square and parallel.
It’s there as an option so thanks again

It depends on the door, the usual interior hollow doors have a very narrow stile with a bit of beefing up in the lock area. In reality, the hole you need to drill is only about 30mm deep if it is hollow. If it is a solid door you can make up a simple guide block to fit over the door edge to give you the best chance of accuracy. start with a narrow pilot hole and then pass through with the correct diameter drill bit. The long shaft of the closer is only to house the spring.

My own bathroom door used to open automatically if not latched, it was plumb and there did not appear to be a draught, as it opened inwardly one would be brushing ones teeth and the door would nudge your back. So I fitted one of these, been some years now, word of warning, extend the chain and put a small steel rod through the chain to hold it out in able to fix the anchored end.

They usually come with a little gizmo that holds the chain in place while you fix the anchored end.aeromech3 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 11, 2023 2:57 pm My own bathroom door used to open automatically if not latched, it was plumb and there did not appear to be a draught, as it opened inwardly one would be brushing ones teeth and the door would nudge your back.
