Hi all, can anyone advise-
I have a problem with my monster woodworking combination machine (saw/planer/thicknesser/spindle moulder) - an old Startrite/Robland K260. Has a control panel with function selector and stop/go buttons. Starting just press the green button and normally starts up until pressing the red stop button. Fault developed, pressing and holding in green the motor works but releasing this it stops - not latching - not sure if this is the switch itself, or a relay it may trigger, or whether some other fault in machine/motor.
Any suggestions, methodology to diagnose fault ?

Startrite/Robland Combination Machine problem
When you press the start button, the relay energises
When the relay energises a pair of contacts connect, starting the motor
When the relay energises a pair of contacts connect and "short" the start button
When you let go of the start button the motor continues to run as the start button is "shorted" by the relay
When you press the STOP button it breaks the supply to the relay.
When there is no supply to the relay the contacts for the motor disconnect (so the motor slows/ then stops)
When there is no supply to the relay the contacts for the start "short" button disconnect
If the relay does not stay in, when the start button is released, it is either
1) A broken wire to the stop button
2) The stop button contacts
3) An emergency stop device operated
4) The relay contacts
5) A failed control circuit fuse

Above are my opinions Below is my signature.
Would you hit a nail with a shoe because you don't have a hammer? of course not, then why work on anything electrical without a means of testing Click Here to buy a "tester" just because it works, does NOT mean it is safe.
If gloom had a voice, it would be me.

Startrite/Robland Combination Machine problem
Well, I am ashamed of myself !
Looked at the machine and realised that a couple of boxes shoved up to the side of the machine had pushed in the lock/safety switch (see pic) - releasing brought the machine back to fully working - surprising really that the motor would still work by pressing and holding the green start button in.
I must keep the workshop tidier - it's my 'go to machine', often in a hurry to get things done.
Thank you for the switch panel guidance notes though, have printed out and put in my machine file.
Right, got to panel in a sink unit so out to use the machine again now .......
