Whether to renew Paramount+

I got Paramount+ last year for £30 odd for 12 months. They have just emailed me to remind me that it will renew in November for £70 for the next 12 months. Now we have enjoyed all the Yellowstone series and Tulsa King but only a few other things appeal. I am not sure it is worth £70 to renew. I am in a conundrum as our viewing is largely streaming these days as normal TV is so boring and repetitive cheaply made TV with some overly woke drama series that we hardly watch. Sky is not good value either and our basic package gives us the main system though. The BBC tax is appallingly poor value. Netflix I consider is the best value and Amazon has some good stuff but we would pay Prime anyway for next day delivery. Disney+ is not that great either but I get that free with my bank perks. So I think my strategy will be to cancel Paramount and see if I can get another cheap deal. If not I will just pay for a few months when the next series of Yellowstone etc are released.

Hmm it's a bit of a "should I paint my door red or blue" type of question in that we can't really give you an answer . It's up to you what you want to do really. Personally we don't pay for streaming services , we have regular tv and sky and find that there's more than enough stuff for us to watch. Perhaps we don't watch as much as yourselves. I think we still have netflix via my wife's sister's account but honestly we haven't even looked at it for quite some time. I have friends who say they view on youtube but that's not something we do either...

Well, I think I answered myself in writing it  We watch Youtube on the main TV when there are things that we both want to watch, there are so many interesting videos and quite frankly the viewing figures on some are much higher than many main TV programmes. We sometimes have a Music video bash of old stuff on YT. We are in command of our viewing and select what we want to watch without any time filling trash on ordinary TV. The other night I cast my laptop to the main TV and we went through our personal Photo gallery which made me feel old. We all form our entertainment and tastes vary so I guess everybody finds their own.

I suppose I'm somewhat unqualified to answer anyway looking at my viewing habits. I'll admit to only recently getting round to watching the Detectorists special shown last christmas and I've got stuff older than that I've recorded and not yet got round to watching...

I quite enjoyed Detectorists. Strangely I have recently been involved with a local group recently who did some scanning for me. They showed me an unusual rifle bullet they found at another site and it has started me off trying to identify it. I have been in contact with ballistic experts in a joint investigation but so far it is so unusual it has been hard to pin it down. It was fired by a percussion rifle in the mid 19th Century and the strange thing is that another group in the Midlands found a cache of exactly the same rare round. It has been fired from a 7 groove rifled barrel with a left twist and the shot has precast rifle lugs to slot into the grooves when muzzle loading. Theoretically following the Brunswick rifle round but more conventional. I think it is a German rifle with an experimental cast bullet. It would have been made obsolete by the Minie ball which was the game changer in that period. I have wandered into too much detail

No, new customers only. :-)

Its a con, sign you up for less £ then at the end charge you twice as much for the same service. As for Sky, no thanks. We did have it and when we cancelled we were paying close to £60/month (been with them quite a few years) Made use of the dish and cables though, put a freesat box on it, should have done it earlier.

I cancelled my Paramount subscription which runs out on the 18th of November. I will see if there are any Black Friday deals on offer this year but we watch so little on there that I will just buy a few months when the new Yellowstone series comes on stream. I may get an offer after my expiration?

Well, I had to wait until now but I saw a half-price yearly deal today for £34.95 so I renewed. The offer only lasts until the 2/01/24. £3 a month is fair, cheaper than one trip to the cinema for us.

Maybe the moral is never auto renew these services, miss a week or 2 and sign up again using an offer

Yes, I suspect that this is driven by subscription levels. If there is a fall off then they offer a short time deal like this to boost the figures and hoover up cancelled subscribers like me with a half price deal. I do not think it is worth more though. Netflix is still our main streamer, and I consider it good value.
