Flat earth

Post by Grendel »

I tend to check in on facebook every couple of days and most of the time after a couple of minutes I'm bored with it and the rubbish on there. Recently for some reason there have been a number of posts from the flat earth society or somesuch type of thing. It's all rubbish but the comments make interesting reading with people trying to "explain" how the globe earth is all a big conspiracy , NASA lie to us , the sun isn'tas big as "they" say and is actually only 5000 miles away , rockets don't make it into space and even our eyes don't work as we think they do. . I'm frankly amazed at how serious some of the posters appear to be and I'm not sure if it's all done as a big joke to just wind people up or if they are just that stupid...

People are so thick now that they are open to anything they read on social media and take it as gospel. There really is a division in society now stupid and bright and nothing in between

Roughly 70% of the earth is water.
Most of this water is NOT carbonated.

This fact just goes to show the Earth is indeed FLAT :-)

Would you hit a nail with a shoe because you don't have a hammer? of course not, then why work on anything electrical without a means of testing Click Here to buy a "tester" just because it works, does NOT mean it is safe.

i never ever subscribe to "group thought" i dont bother sharing with people who share my thoughts unless i have more to add in a usefull way
to continue with the same thoughts over and over again can just reinforce my bigotry life needs ballance off though and input from many sources without a closed mind to learn and digest no matter how far outside your comfort zone it is

and flat earth is just meaningless words so spend zero time even reading it as no input value ---yes i know it contradicts what i have said above about closed minds but as its so beyond the free thinking world via debate already proven over many centuries it is dismissed in my mind as not a new ongoing situation worth discussion as the conclusion is all ready reach through years off reason and debate

Now that makes as much sense as a lot of the arguments...

Reminds me of something that I think was said by the philosopher Nietzsche . If I recall correctly he said that blind faith in god was being replaced by blind faith in science. I tend to think he had a point and had he been around now would have extended his statement to include the belief in various ideas and conspiracies that have no basis in evidence . Perhaps that's going full circle back to believing in the existence of an entity for which we have no evidence.

I know I shouldn't even give it the time of day because as you say the argument has no value but I can't help finding amusement in people tying themselves in knots trying to prove the twaddle...

I think it is hard to understand anyone being so stupid in this particular instance. All the evidence of the World we have discovered from geometry, space exploration, and magnetism, etc must actually be dismissed as being wrong in these people's minds. There is no explanation about how the oceans are contained on a flat earth, it is just all rubbish. The point is if you met people like this in the flesh you would soon dismiss them as fools in about 30 seconds. So why give any credibility to some fool spouting on social media. So many people are posting shite for their own agendas, the skill needed is how to spot an idiot from their on line presence in the same 30 seconds that you would take if they were in front of you. I read a lot of things and my alarm goes off a short way in when you can tell it is b*llocks and dump it.

Well ,
Had a message on facebook yesterday to say I'm now a member of the Flat Earth Debate Forum...
I didn't ask to become a member but hey ho , looks like I can join in the debating although frankly just how much serious debate there can be in open to question. I get the feeling that a lot of so called flat earthers are little more than god botherers that take the bible as "evidence'...

I can answer that one now. Or rather give you a couple of answers. One says that Antarctica isn't a continent but an impenetrable ice wall that contains all the oceans. Another answer is that there is a "dome" over the whole world so a sort of belt and braces approach to stop the water sliding off. Incidentally that dome is the limit to earth , there's nothing "outside" of it no space , nothing and that dome contains the sun and the moon so obviously the sun is more local and a lot smaller than we've been led to believe.
I can barely believe I'm actually telling you this nonsense...

Ha ha, sounds like you could have a bit of fun with them. Have they ever seen the Jim Carrey film The Truman Show to get that idea?
