Double wall socket switch won't switch off. It just flips back to on. The left side one is fine. It used to do this 3 years ago then was working again. Now it's back. Do I have to replace the entire socket unit? Is that easy to do and legal on your own? Thank you

Firstly I am useless with electrics but know the basics. It sounds like the switch is defective and a change is needed. Make sure you know how to turn the power off before doing anything. Unscrew the plate and take a number of photos of the existing connections. You will see marks on the fitting alongside each connection so focus on them as well. In this way, you can ensure fitting same for same. I managed to do this myself last year. If you are not confident buy an extension block with switches like this

When you change a socket sometimes the terminal are reversed, so make sure you check, and although it's a socket, take a couple of clear in focus pictures of the wiring.
Yes, you are legally allowed to change it yourself, switch the mains off first.
Try the screws of the new socket before you take the old one off. It's just so you know where they are and you have the correct size screwdriver.
