A friend of mine works for a building business with 8-10 employees. There are carpenters, builders, brick layers, site manager, etc.

They mostly work on higher end private home builds, like renovations.

In this kind of company, what is the tool policy for each employee? For example, what is the norm..
- company purchases all equipment tools (drills, saws, etc).
- employees have to purchase their own equipment
- it’s a mix of company / employee ownership, but who owns what typically?

Most trades have their own tools as most are subcontractors brought in as needed. Big tools are hired in.

whne i worked as a field engineer many years ago , expectation was you purchased your own tools - except for anything specialised or very expensive , company offered a loan - this was back in the 70's ,

Then i joined a large computer company and EVERYTHING was provided
i suspect it will depend on the company policy and how employed

When i had a roofing job and windows changed last 5 years - the employees owned all their own tools - and some had makita, dewalt & Milwaukee

If cards in firm should supply by rights but most trades would have their own hand tools and basic cordless gear like drills. If subbie then they should have all their own gear. Its not black and white though if your cards in but earning a good wedge you wouldn't grumble about kitting yourself out. Whatever the score the firm should supply consumables like blades
