Got a letter from British Gas today, in short our direct debit for gas is going down from roughly £120/month to roughly £40/month.
All I have done is to fit a room stat that changes max temp according to the time of day (or night)

Sounds more like your account is in credit and they didn’t adjust your payment down, nor did you ask when the price dropped in January and again next month

changing a thermostat will save between 0 and 10 % at the most probably in the range 0ff 2-5%??

if you are in credit ask for a lump sum back then watch £40 jump way back up
have a look at your years use that will tell you what it should be, remembering to add vat at 5% and gas standing charge off around £9.50 a month

i say the zero points in the cycle is february and august where your account should have no credit so iff you have credit now off say £150 you are loosing around £7.50 a year in interest at 5%

My gas is £105 per month now and as my heating is on 24/7 and we have a usual even temperature of 22.5 in the living areas and around 20.4 in the bedrooms, I think that is quite good. I was lucky as I fixed my gas price for two years previously and it was only £65 a month which got me through the first year of the Putin energy price increase. I seem to be on track looking at my account data. The electric is more expensive as it is £112 a month which I consider a bit strong. So yearly we are at around £2,604, but as pensioners, we get £600 winter fuel allowance so the real cost is £2000 or around £40 a week. This is for a detached four bedroomed house.

Drop your temp by a few degrees then you will make some savings

I am on blood thinners and feel the cold my car is set on the same temperature plus when it is really cold I use the heated seats and steering wheel. The electric costs annoy me as it is spread over lots of powered items. Lighting, Internet and TV, Fridges, Washing machine, boiling kettles, cooking and lots of things I cannot think of. But because they are not so apparent as heating I get annoyed at what I consider to be too high a cost.
