I have installed spot lights before from the end of a circuit and it was very easy because I had one wire to work with. I have now got to install ceiling lights but there is currently a ceiling rose with 3 wires meeting. The switch wire is clearly indicated and the ceiling is down so I can see everything.

My preferred method is wagos but I was just wondering how I go from 3 wires to spot lights.

Happy to get an electrician but my curiosity is getting the better of me and I will want to know regardless. I’m thinking I need to get three of the wires to begin the spot lights and daisy chain it along but which 3. Any thoughts greatly received. Like I say, I’ll probably get an electrician eventually but I’d like to know either way.

Yes, wagos in a box is the way to go.
One cable is feed in (From previous light or Consumers unit)
One cable is feed out (To next set of lights)
One cable is switch cable (Guess where it goes)

Once this has been done you add a 4th cable that goes to the first downlight, then loops to the other downlights.

Thank you for your response. From the diagram attached, if the spotlights are double insulated and don’t need an earth, do I just attach twin core? That’s a shame because I’ve got lots of twin core and earth in the shed.

Tried it on one light as a test. Works fine, thanks very much. Would everyone recommend 1mm cable for 4 down lights or is 1.5mm better? I have both.

You must have an earth at each light and 1mm T & E is fine

Thank you but the lights only have live and neutral. There is no terminal for earth.

As I said, you must have an earth at each light. Suppose next week you change them to a different light that does have an earth, what will you do?

Thank you. All done and installed. Will get an electrician to check when sockets get checked before a new kitchen goes in. Thanks for your help.
