Old wiring with new light switch

Hi All.

I'm helping an 80yr old inlaw with replacing his kitchen light switch as it's not working anymore. On opening it I've found old wiring and I'm not 100% sure how to wire up the new switch. I've posted pictures of the old wiring and the new switch the inlaw bought.

There is an earthing wire going to the metal casing so at least that's one thing.

Thanks in advance for any help or advice you can give.

Both are wired the same way.

Look at the existing switch, the back is a triangle, with "com" at the the top
Now look at the new switch, the back is square, oh wait, one terminal says "SP" that is spare, so instead of 4 terminals it has 3
What shape has 3 corners? a triangle, now where have I just seen a triangle with "Com" at the bottom? (turn it round and it will be at the top)
