New bathroom fan issues
Post by sanitygone »
We had a new Vent Axia 479809 fan installed a few weeks ago. It was to replace an old fan which was set to come on with the bathroom light it also had a run on timer.
The electrician is having problems getting the fan to come on with the light, he says there is only two wires to the fan when there should be three.
Has anyone else had experience of the above problem and found a solution?

Hum. Has the spark tested the voltage on the 2 wires at the old fan?
Sounds like it could be a 12v system

Thank you for your response.
The old fan was 12v so that makes sense.

You can buy separate over run timer such as a Manrose 1351 but they cost a few quid.

Eventually the fan that was installed due to the problems we had is Vent Axia Solo. Not exactly sure which model but it looks like this ,https://www.cef.co.uk/catalogue/product ... lsrc=aw.ds The electrician run a new cable so we could get the run on timer to work.
We are finding there is an awful lot of condensation. I feel it’s possible there is more condensation than with the 15 year old fan that it replaced. Even when it was brand new in the summer I felt the fan could be working better than it is.
The first fan the electrician put in cleared the condensation very well, but was a problem because it ran continuously unless the isolator switch was turned off. Even when we were turning the switch off and running the fan for a short time it was much better than the current fan.
I’m not sure if the electrician felt because the fan is physically larger it would be more powerful than the first fan he installed.
I am having problem trying to get hold of the electrician as he isn’t responding to my calls or messages.
I wonder if it is possible the Vent Axia solo is not on its highest setting and if there is a way we can change settings without the need to call a new electrician?!

You would need to look up the exact manual for your fan to see what settings it has/hasn't. Anything else is a guess.

Would you hit a nail with a shoe because you don't have a hammer? of course not, then why work on anything electrical without a means of testing Click Here to buy a "tester" just because it works, does NOT mean it is safe.

How big is the gap under the door? Unless dry air can enter the room any extractor can’t operate and don’t open a window as all it’ll do in the winter is draw more cool moist air into the room

Thank you for your replies.
The instruction book does not specify which model the fan is , it is a choice of 4. Models are 427477B(P), 427478B (T), 427479B (HT) or 427480B (TM) . I didn't get an invoice as electrician didn't charge any more to replace the original fan.
We leave the bathroom door sightly ajar , any more and we get condensation into the house.
I've tried putting a piece of toilet paper right up to the fan with both the cover on and off. When the cover is on there is absolutely no draw to the fan at all, without the cover it does draw the toilet paper to the fan.

Have you looked at its exhaust pipe? and the "plate" outside.
Forgotten the word, but by plate I mean the grille on the external wall/soffit, it may be clogged or blocked.

Thank you for your response.
It's not easy to get to look at the exhaust pipe due to the bathroom being upstairs.
With previous fans we've been able to look through the fan blades to see if there is daylight, with this fan this is not possible.
