Exterior Lighting Cables

Around 30 years ago my father installed an outside light. The cable he used is standard sheathed PVC Cable.
He used a plastic pipe to run the cable in which over time has perished and now exposes the cable. It looks a mess

What is the recommedendation for exteror cables. Do i simply use cable clips to clip it to the wall? Do I need to hide it in something, in which case what should i use - is there a truncking which works well on brick.

If it makes any difference the cable is abour 2.5 meters up from the ground and can't be reached without a ladder.

This sounds daft, but what colour was the "pipe" and what was it made of? Better still a picture?

Black seems to resist UV from the sun, so be it black cable or black conduit (if plastic) does not matter, where there is danger of damage I have even used a hose pipe. The grey twin and earth is not rated for outside use, and the flat profile is harder to seal on to a round profile, but really it is a case of using common sense.
