Filling hole in ceiling

I am decorating my daughter's room this weekend and have removed a fuse spur which was fed from a cable in the loft. There is now a small hole (about 1"x1") in the ceiling which I want to fill. I tried with polyfilla but it's not working as there's nothing for it to bond too and it's too heavy so drops down.
Any recommendations for something to fill the small hole with so I can paint on top?

Cut a bit of wood a little narrower than the hole but longer drill a couple of small holes in it to allow a thread or fine string to go through and back.
push the wood up and slide across to rest either side , hold with the string and fill. you can either pull the string out and patch when the filler has partly gone off or wait till it drys and pull the string through then.
I would let it dry if the string will not come out cut it just under flush and make good.

Absolutely the best filler for this is "One Strike"

Code: Select all

it is super light, so it does not fall out of a vertical hole.
When you buy it, you would think the pot is empty it's that light.
I use this all the time now.
