My new bathroom ceiling

Post by Dxc712 »

I'm going to have a new ceiling with my new bathroom but I'm not sure what material to use.

Plasterboard and PVC have been suggested but I'm not sure if one is generally seen as a better option than the other.

I will probably have five downlights if that's a factor in choosing between plasterboard and PVC.

Does anyone have any advice?

Thanks.

Having cut plasterboard for square and round downlights I can say easy (messy); plastics have a habit of cracking, especially from corners and your stuck with original colour and choices.

Make sure you use the correct type of plasterboard, here in France its called "Hydrofuge" and its Green.

Thanks for your response.

Sorry, I'm not sure what you mean when you say easy (messy).

Are you advising that I should have a plasterboard ceiling rather than PVC?

How is plasterboard and PVC ceilings supported and held up?

Is it done the same way in both cases?

Thanks. Is there any difference between moisture resistant or water resistant boards?

For example, I thought maybe water resistant boards would provide a better level of protection than moisture resistant boards.

I presume that water resistant boards would be used when water is going directly onto the surface e.g. with walls.
On the ceiling a moisture resistant board would be suitable as it would be steam that's making contact with the boards rather than water splashing onto it directly.

Is that correct?

Does anyone know the correct type of plasterboard that is used in the UK for bathroom ceilings?

Thanks
