I need a good wired one with variable speed, option of reverse and with a good hammer action on it. Any recommendations from personal experience please?

What is a wired drill?

Any particular reason it must be wired?

I last used a wired drill some 25 years ago, battery is easier, no lead to get tangled, and no extension lead required.

If you really want one get a known branded one, look on amazon for the reviews.

I'm always near to a power point, so no need for batteries.

The only corded drill I have is my Screwfix Titan hammer and chisel drill which is pretty powerful but heavy, only £60 odd. For regular use, I have a cordless hammer drill which does 90% of what I need. You can get an 18v Titan with 2 batteries for £70. Its all you need

Well, its your money. But same answer as before, get a known branded one, look on amazon for the reviews. I am of the opinion most people (on here) do not use corded drills so as much as we would like, can't give you personal feed back as we don't use them.

I just looked, apart from the Titan brand (Not brilliant quality) a corded drill will cost more than a cordless drill.

DIY use ? Bosch arn't bad for the money

Bosch Professional Corded Rotary Hammer Drill with SDS Plus GBH 2-28 (240V).

I just find it easier with corded, not having to keep charging batteries. Anyway, each to our own!

If you are going down the SDS route, you may want to consider one with a NON SDS Chuck - for wood etc

I have this SDS and its really good , used to go through brickwalls , lintel, breakup a pathway and channelling - as well as being able to use on WOOD - POSTS , and fine wood

I had the bosch on my short list for a while - BUT ended with the Dewalt due to the chuck (which i change a lot) and also was on an offer at FFX , also the power of the Corded was more for your buck at the time i purchased 2019

As you are now looking at large SDS Drill - what is it you want to be able to do with this drill
Its quite big and heavy , I dont use mine day to day , i use a normal combi drill , has hammer and reverse and can use for screws (although I use a impact driver for those, easier with the 2 units )
Amazed no corded small combi or hammer drill seem to be around , just a quick search, all came up with these large drills, almost double handed drills

take a trip to a BIG warehouse B&Q, i was in one last night at Havant , and they have all th etools on display , so you can hold them , and just have a feel of the SDS drills and how you might for example use it ....

BUT what would you be doing with the drill , give some examples perhaps of jobs, I probably use my sds 1% of the time for a drilling job - Lintel, outside wall & posts holes for coach bolts to mount a fence (otherwise its main use is for the NON Rotary Chisel action)

An SDS is a versatile tool where you can turn off the rotary action and just use the hammer action for breaking and chiseling. But they are heavy and difficult to use for small jobs. But if you ever chop out a fence post you will be glad to have one. The ideal situation is you need both tools and a cordless combi is the most convenient tool for odd drilling jobs. But you can also use it as a screwdriver and corded drills do not give you that as Big All says. My original Titan SDS lasted 12 years with heavy abuse. My suggestion was that you could buy both tools for a reasonable price.

Be aware there is SDS and SDS plus, mine only comes out for masonry or chisel (rotary stop) duties, I do have a standard hammer drill but the cordless does the same job + driving

for sds id probably look at a dewalt, makita, bosch or hikoki (used to be hitachi )

i did see a hikoki machine at a really good price and they are decent tools.

to be fair though ive been exclusively battery on my sds drills in often daily use for a good while now. mine is a dewalt. with a decent capacity battery you get a good amount of use out of it.

think all of them seem to come with roto stop for chiseling these days. most come with reverse although ive never had to drill anything backwards before. my dewalt can accidentally be switched over to reverse which is an annoyance but its a good machine other than that.
