Verge Repointing Quotes

Post by Dav50 »

I have a 172sq metre 2018 build with a slate roof and mortar verges. Some of the mortar has been cracking and falling out. I have been quoted £3500 to replace the existing mortar and £4200 for a dry verge system. The house has two side gables and a front gable.

When I questioned what was Is what was needed to fit a dry verge, I was told that none of the slates would need to be lifted. The existing mortar would be raked out a a batten fitted (I have no idea how). Is the quote reasonable? Thanks.

Verge Repointing Quotes

Hi, your question sounds a simple one to answer, but the truth is, it is NOT possible to answer via a forum. The reason is no forum member can see what is actually required, there is a long list of things we can't see, access to the property, how much scaffolding is required, access to job etc.
Best thing to do is get another quote and compare the two, but make sure they are quoting for the same thing, not similar.

Would you hit a nail with a shoe because you don't have a hammer? of course not, then why work on anything electrical without a means of testing Click Here to buy a "tester" just because it works, does NOT mean it is safe.

Inept people use the QUOTE BUTTON instead of the QUICK REPLY section :-)

2018 build should still be covered by the NHBC warranty. The mortar should last a bit longer than 6 years if it is done properly.

that's incorrect for a start. Quotes seem excessive. get another 2 quotes before making a decision.
