I am looking to add a simple tile backsplash in my kitchen. Will just be a single row of medium size tiles above the worktop. The wall behind is a mix of paint and some exposed plaster. I Was thinking about the best way to fix the tiles and wondered if using a construction adhesive would be ok, basically doing a dot and dab method. I thought this might adhere to the paint better than normal tile adhesive, probably be cheaper and less messy as no mixing needed.
Also not sure what to do about edging, the bathroom sink backsplash is just caulked and painted, it never had edging added it and looks Ok to me anyway.
Thoughts appreciated.

Construction adhesive?
In my bathroom I just scratched everything back to the blocks then leveled it and used tile cement; would not leave painted ares without scoring.

Construction adhesive?

I have stuck tiles on paint.i scuffed with a scotchpad and tiled over with no issues. Just use tile adhesive and get matching tile trim. Tile adhesive allows you to get the tiles level, other adhesives may not.
