Thoughts, as there is no definitive answer.

As it says in the title, I am just wondering what your thoughts on the following are, as I see it there is no definitive answer, but the more of your thoughts are posted, you never know................ :-P

So here is the question in two parts:

(Part 1)
I am on a few forums, seems the same thing happens. Often you will see a new poster, ask a question (Doesn't matter what the question or subject is) you will see one or two replies within 24 hours, maybe one or two more in the following days, but the OP never comes back, never even "checks in" I just wonder WHY?

(Part 2)
The OP has not been back for a few weeks, and a regular forum member will post a reply to the question, so much so the question has fallen "off the main screen" WHY reply, when it is obvious that the OP is never coming back?

________________________________________________________
FYI
For those that don't know, most forums if you hover over a user name/go to user profile it will show when the user was last active and or last posted. :-)

Please also reply to the actual question.

I always find that strange. Sometimes quite obscure questions are answered to no effect or comeback. I wondered if there is s degree of chatbot posts for some arcane reason. I annoys me if there is no response or update made.

I can only answer part one of your question from the perspective of this forum. The default setting is "do not notify me of replies by e-mail" as opposed to "notify me of replies by e-mail".

I queried this with Chez some time ago, apparently it's something to do with GDPR rules. :dunno:

I’ve noticed that the OP’s will have reviewed the thread but not updated it or thanked people for help

1. most are after an answer to a question, they tend to cut and paste the question to multiple places until they get an answer or answers that fits with their own way of thinking

2. see 1., the replying poster may not have been on the forum for many days/weeks, and replies with relevant information, sometimes technical - so the information is out in the world for others to see

been around boards and forums since the early 90's before the days of the almighty Google
