Undersized upvc door

Post by Nicholas221078 »

Hi all

I've got the chance of a free upvc door .
It's only 2 year old but my opening is 950cm wide , this door is 880, so as I'm getting the door free is it bad practice to put a 70mm addon on,
It's 210cm high too.
There is a window to the side also attached with a joining addon, if it's OK to do this can the 70mm go hinge side?

So it would be a 70x70 addon

It probably wouldn't look all that great with a big fillet like that, but as the old phrase goes beggars can't be choosers and if the door is a significant upgrade to your current one then it is probably worth putting up with.

is it into a clean opening or are you trying to adapt /pad out a wooden frame

also are you setting it up the same way as in was an outward opening door and still will be as the drain holes will drain to what was the front off the door

Are you getting the door mounted in its frame as a unit? If so it will be easier to fit into an existing opening but if not, it is not really the best to fix it into a built up frame to suit the door.

I would fit the filler piece on the handle side. Being between the window and door will not look out of place plus the weight of the door would be better having the frame fixed directly to the brick.

I think the hinges would be too close to the plater inside after looking at the door.
Is there any fillers that make up 70mm if I put 1 either side.

Thanks

You can usually cut down filler pieces, obviously cutting on the side that is going against the brick, not the side that locks into the frame. Depending how much you cut off you might need to add in some material into the hollow space to stop the screws pulling through.
